Planning Space Around a Dining Table
A dining layout includes the chairs in use and the space people need to move. Start with the full arrangement rather than the tabletop alone.
Map the full dining area
Mark walls, door swings and nearby cabinets on a plan. Include a route between the kitchen and dining area and any passage behind seated diners. Test the arrangement with the actual chairs or a taped outline before approving a table footprint.
Allow chairs to move
Measure your selected chair in both its tucked-in and pulled-out positions. Check whether someone can get up while another person passes behind. The required clearance depends on the chairs, room and use; confirm your layout rather than relying on a single generic number.
Check the table base and chair fit
Ask for the distance between table legs and the clearance below the apron. Check armchair height and the placement of pedestals against the proposed seating positions. A tabletop may look large enough while its base limits usable seating.
Compare shapes in your room
A rectangular table can follow a longer room; a round table changes how people circulate around its edges. Compare footprints at the same scale, including the chairs. If an extension is proposed, test the fully extended arrangement too.
Confirm the specification
Share the number of regular diners, occasional seating needs, room plan and preferred references. Ask Baithak to confirm the table and chair dimensions, materials, finish, care guidance and delivery details for the selected furniture.
Use this planning checklist
| Decision | Information to compare | Practical test |
|---|---|---|
| Table footprint | Top dimensions and base position | Tape the top outline on the room plan or floor |
| Chair movement | Chair size tucked in and pulled out | Sit down, stand up and check the route behind |
| Table and chair fit | Arm height, apron clearance and leg spacing | Compare the exact chair with the table specification |
| Nearby storage | Cabinet and drawer opening | Test their full opening with chairs in use |
