Choosing a Sofa Size for Your Bangalore Apartment
Choose a sofa by the usable space around it as well as the number of seats. A straight sofa and a sectional can occupy the same wall very differently.
Start with the room layout
Mark the television, doors, balcony access and the routes people use through the room. Try a sofa footprint with tape before deciding on a size. Keep the route between rooms usable and check how a coffee table changes the remaining space.
Compare a straight sofa and a sectional
A straight sofa leaves flexibility for a separate chair. A sectional adds a return that may suit a corner but can interrupt a route. Identify the chaise side from the actual room plan and confirm the orientation in writing before ordering.
Ask for complete dimensions
Seat count alone does not tell you overall width. Ask for the maximum outer dimensions, seat depth, seat height, back height and arm width for the proposed design. Compare these with a seat you already find comfortable; there is no single size that suits everyone.
Plan upholstery around use
Discuss who will use the sofa, the light in the room and any cleaning requirements. Request a sample and the supplier care instructions for the selected upholstery. A colour name or texture description does not establish a fabric composition or cleaning method.
Check the route into the apartment
Include the lift, stairs and doorway measurements in your brief. Confirm whether the proposed sofa arrives in one piece or several parts, along with the delivery arrangements. Use the sofa gallery for visual direction and confirm the final specification with Baithak.
Use this planning checklist
| Arrangement | Useful when | Confirm before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Straight sofa | You want flexibility for a separate chair or a different layout | Outer width, arm width and the space for additional seats |
| Sectional or chaise | The return fits a clear part of the room | Chaise side, full projection, connecting route and access |
| Sofa with separate chair | Reading or conversation needs a second seating position | Both footprints, table placement and the route between them |
